As a result of global sanctions against Russian oligarchs after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the devaluation of the ruble, 34 Russian billionaires have been removed from the list compared to last year. The fortunes of 83 Russians who have maintained their presence in the table have stagnated or decreased compared to the previous year, reaching a total of $ 260 billion.
The United States continues to lead the world with 735 billionaires worth $ 4.7 trillion. China (including Macau and Hong Kong) remains in second place with 607 billionaires with a total wealth of $ 1.96 trillion. In total, Chinese billionaires are about $ 500 billion poorer than last year, when they had a fortune of about $ 2.5 trillion. The new list comes at a time when the Covid-19 epidemic, the collapse of stock markets and the slump in trade have hit billions around the world. Most of the 329 people dropped out of the list after falling below $ 1 billion, the most since the 2009 financial crisis.
However, while 236 people have just been added to the list, a thousand have become richer than a year ago. Newcomers include $ 1.7 billion pop star Rihanna, Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings, and Jared Kouchner, investor and son-in-law of Donald Trump.
The 86 members on the list are under the age of 40, including Melanie Perkins, the 34-year-old founder of the Conva graphic design platform. Twelve of them are under the age of 30, including 19-year-old Kevin David Lehmann, the world’s youngest billionaire and heir to the German drugstore chain Drewgie Market, and Gary Wang, 28, the founder of FTX digital currency.
According to Forbes, the total wealth of the world’s richest people fell by about $ 400 billion to $ 12.7 trillion compared to last year, when they reached a record $ 13.1 trillion.
