‘The Way Of Water’ from ‘Avatar’ Raises domestic box office to $150M+ with $16M projected for Monday

Avatar Makes $16M! Avatar: The Way of Water, from Disney/20th Century Studio, is expected to earn around $16 million on Monday, bringing its four-day total to $150.1 million. There’s nothing to be upset about because the James Cameron-directed film’s opening weekend outperformed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s opening weekend ($11.1M).

If Avatar 2 earns more than $16 million today, it will surpass Universal/Minions: Illumination’s The Rise of Gru’s July 4th Monday gross to become the second-best Monday of 2022.

The Memorial Day weekend’s $33.8M gross for Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick was the highest-grossing Monday of the year. Spider-Man: No Way Home’s opening Monday a year ago brought in $37.1M, making it the third-best Monday in domestic box office history.

According to what Disney announced on Sunday morning, Avatar: The Way of Water finished at $134.1M, maintaining its three-day box office record. 

Many sources are saying that the sequel won’t make its $150 million to $175 million revenue projections. 

Avatar 2’s Monday is currently mimicking the Sunday-to-Monday decline of Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which decreased by -54% for a $17.6M Monday.
