Amber Heard claimed in her court testimony that, as a result of Johnny Depp’s jealousy, she gave up film roles with sex scenes.
The Aquaman actress, 36, took the stand on Thursday and described to the court the supposedly controlling nature of her former husband. She even recalled having to cut back on film roles that involved sex scenes and revealing outfits.
Heard is currently involved in a $50 million defamation lawsuit with the 58-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star, who claims she falsely accused him of physical and sexual abuse in a 2018 op-ed published by The Washington Post.
The lawsuit began on April 11 in Fairfax, Virginia. The actress has filed a $100 million counterclaim against Depp.
Per the Independent, The Danish Girl actress told the jury that her former husband attempted to control her acting career.
“I’ve always been really independent. I couldn’t imagine not working,” She said. “I never imagined myself having to explain or justify my job.”
Heard expressed that she’s always been independent as at the beginning of her entertainment career, she would send half of her pay check to her family to support them.
She then claimed the Fantastic Beasts star said to her: “You don’t have to work kid, I will take care of you, my woman doesn’t have to work.”
The actress explained that while the actor’s words could’ve been perceived as kind, she felt it was manipulative, because later on, she felt she had to be careful about what roles to accept.
She said that she “had to bargain” with Depp every time she got a script.
She then explained that she considered what each film role was and whether it entailed things that would anger the actor such as revealing clothing and intimate scenes.
Later on, the Pineapple Express star testified that she started “minimizing kissing scenes” and that she would “change the wardrobe” and only accept roles that required no intimate scenes and “minimal makeup”, adding that it was a “constant battle and negotiation” with Depp.
“I couldn’t have a sex scene,” she said. “It didn’t happen all at once of course, it was little by little.”
She added that if she was offered a role and the script included a sex scene, she would look at it and feel her “gut tighten”.
Heard also claimed that during their relationship, she had to send scripts and images of her film wardrobe to Depp as well as share private information with his staff.
