The German government on Wednesday agreed to an immigration program that would allow tens of thousands of immigrants living in the country to obtain permanent residence permits.
The new regulations that were approved by the German Federal Cabinet include about 136,000 immigrants who have lived in this country for at least five years before January 1, 2022. This group of immigrants who do not have a permanent residence permit can first apply for a one-year residence permit and then submit their request for a permanent residence permit.
Among the conditions set for these immigrants are earning enough money in Germany to support an independent life, speaking German and proving integration and integration into German society.

“We want those people who are well integrated into society to have good opportunities in our country,” German Interior Minister Nancy Fesser said of the new immigration regulations.

The new immigration regulations also facilitate the process of learning German for asylum seekers. Previously, only a group of asylum seekers whose asylum application was seriously likely to be approved could enroll in language classes.
In addition, the German coalition government made it easier for skilled workers and their families to immigrate to this country. On this basis, those skilled workers such as information technology specialists or workers whose work is needed in Germany can immigrate to this country. Family members of these skilled workers will not need to prove their German language proficiency.
The German Minister of the Interior said that the goal of these new regulations is to “quickly attract” skilled workers. He emphasized that Germany needs the work of these workers in “many sectors”.
The German government’s new immigration program also makes it easier to deport immigrants who have committed crimes.
