Iran, Russia and China have launched a joint naval maneuver
Iran, Russia and China began their joint naval exercise in the Indian Ocean on Friday. This military maneuver lasts for three days.
AFP quoted officials in Tehran as saying that 11 naval units of the Islamic Republic of Iran, three naval units of the Revolutionary Guards, three Russian military units and two units from China are taking part in the three-day military exercise.
Tehran has said the maneuver will take place in an area of 17,000 square kilometers in the Indian Ocean.
The three countries conducted similar military exercises in the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean in late 2019.
This new maneuver was announced during the visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Ra’isi to Moscow.
Russia and China, like Germany, Britain and France, are among the countries that have adhered to the nuclear deal with Iran. In 2018, during the presidency of Donald Trump, the United States unilaterally withdrew from this agreement and once again imposed extensive sanctions against the Iranian government.
Iran subsequently gradually reduced its obligations under the agreement. New talks are under way in Vienna to revive the nuclear deal.
