Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah, the leaders of the former government of Afghanistan, have given gifts of several thousand dollars to US President Joe Biden in the last year of their government.
Joe Biden and his family have received their “most expensive” gifts in 2021 from Russian President Vladimir Putin and former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, according to documents released Thursday.
According to the CBS News news channel and quoting from the website details in the annual accounting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the gifts of American officials from world leaders, in June 2021, Ghani and his wife gave two precious silk carpets with an estimated value of 28,800 dollars to Joe Biden and his wife have given a gift.
In the same month, Abdullah Abdullah, then head of Afghanistan’s Supreme National Reconciliation Council, also gifted Biden a brass and lapis lazuli jewelry box with an estimated value of $1,150.
Less than two months before the fall of the Afghan government to the hands of the Taliban, Ghani and Abdullah traveled to the American capital to talk to Biden and met him at the White House.
It should be noted that the gifts of Putin and Ghani have been transferred to the National Archives of the United States, because all gifts to American officials with a value of more than 415 dollars must be kept in this place.
In his June 16 meeting with Biden in Geneva, Putin also gave Biden a “miniature writing pen set” worth an estimated $12,000.
