Sarfraz Bugti, the Interior Minister of the caretaker government of Pakistan, has warned that there will be no compromise on the deadline announced for illegal Afghan immigrants and that all immigrants will be deported after the set date.
The cabinet of the caretaker government of Pakistan announced a deadline in early October of this year that all illegal immigrants, most of whom are from Afghanistan, must leave the country by November 1.
Sarfraz Bugti says: “All factions were present in the meeting that was held regarding the deportation of Afghan immigrants. In that meeting, it was decided to set a period for them.”
The Acting Minister of Interior of Pakistan has claimed that some people have informed the Pakistani authorities that a number of migrants want to return to Afghanistan voluntarily.
Meanwhile, a number of Afghan citizens who live in Pakistan complain about the misbehavior of the government of that country with Afghan citizens and say that despite having legal documents, they are arrested by the Pakistani police.
The announcement of a deadline for Afghan refugees by the caretaker government of Pakistan faced strong reactions from international institutions, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
Patricia Gusman, the deputy director of Asia at Human Rights Watch, said in a newsletter that Afghan immigrants have been dragged back and forth in Pakistan for a long time in a “political football” between the two countries without regard to their rights.
However, Islamabad emphasized that this deadline is not only for Afghan immigrants, but also includes all illegal immigrants in this country.
Sarfaraz Boguti says: “There will be no problem for all the people who belong to the citizenship of any [country], if they have visas and other necessary documents.”
The United Nations has also asked Pakistan to refrain from putting pressure on Afghan immigrants and let them stay in this country voluntarily.
According to the statistics of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, about 1/10 of the 33 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan have registered migration cards (PoR) and more than 840 thousand other citizenship cards (ACC).
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Returnees has said that 820 migrant families from Pakistan returned to Afghanistan voluntarily and forcibly in the last week.
The Interior Minister of the caretaker government of Pakistan has warned that there will be no compromise on the deadline announced for illegal Afghan immigrants and all immigrants will be deported after the set date.
