Euro international News : US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden will host an Eid al-Fitr banquet at the White House on Monday, May 2nd.
The ceremony is also expected to be attended by Deg Amhoff, the wife of US Vice President Harris.
“The tradition of religious freedom for all strengthens our country, and we will continue to work with Americans of all faiths and backgrounds to reaffirm our collective commitment to these fundamental principles,” the White House wrote in a statement late Sunday, May 1. “Let’s patrol and deepen it.”
“This year, at White House, we will resume the tradition of celebrating Eid and respecting American-inspired Muslims who are leading the effort to build a stronger understanding and unity across our country,” Biden said in a statement.
Eid celebrations were held last year due to restrictions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in a virtual way.
“Millions of displaced persons and migrants around the world are celebrating this sacred holiday away from their families and uncertainty about their future,” the White House said in a statement.
The US President has stressed that the US commitment to “play a role as a window of hope for oppressed peoples around the world” must be fulfilled.
