The German coalition government wants to attract 400,000 foreign workers each year. Experts say Germany needs a “modern immigration program” to make up for labor shortages and boost economic growth.
The German coalition government wants to attract 400,000 foreign workers each year. According to Reuters, the German government has announced that this measure is aimed at balancing the distribution of labor and eliminating labor shortages in areas of the economy where the corona epidemic is a threat.
According to Christian Doyer, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party in the parliament of the German coalition government, the labor shortage is so severe that it has actually slowed economic growth
“Germany with an ‘up-to-date immigration policy’ can solve the problem of worn-out labor … we must quickly attract 400,000 foreign workers to the country’s labor market,” he added.
In September of last year, the head of the German Labor Office, Deutf Schill, called on the government to take immediate action to provide labor.
He is also among those who believe that more immigrants should be attracted to Germany. According to him, there is a shortage of skilled labor in many areas, from services to technical areas.
In an interview with the Zoddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, Schill warned that the labor force in Germany was “running out” due to demographic change.
The head of the German General Directorate of Labor also mentioned in the conversation that by 2021 the number of potential workers of normal working age will be reduced by about 150,000 and warned that this shortage will become much more significant in the coming years.
