Ranveer Singh, the famous star of Indian cinema, was questioned by the police on the charge of “obscenity” after the publication of his nude pictures on Monday, August 29.
The publication of Ranveer Singh’s nude pictures in the New York-based “Pepper” magazine created a lot of noise in India and led to numerous complaints against him.
Police in the Indian city of Mumbai said they interrogated Ranveer Singh for two hours on charges of “corrupting the youth of the society” and “shaming women” and officially recorded his statements.
A senior Mumbai police official, J Kumar Suryavanshi, told AFP without elaborating on Singh’s statement that the case was still under investigation.
Vedika Chaubey, an Indian lawyer, said in an NDTV television program in relation to the complaints related to the publication of Singh’s nude photos: “Of course it is a heinous act, we see that he is a coward… This is a national issue.”
Apart from Ranveer Singh, other complaints have been filed against Aamir Khan, another famous Bollywood star. Aamir Khan also appeared in a nude scene in the movie PK, and some of the promotional posters of this movie, which was released in 2014, had his nude photo printed.
Earlier this year, a Calcutta University professor in India was fired for posting pictures of himself in a swimsuit on Instagram.
