The Asian University for Women based in Bangladesh has announced that it offers hundreds of scholarships for Afghan women in bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Kamal Ahmad, the founder of this university, during his four-day trip to Kabul, after meeting with the Acting Minister of Education, Acting Ministry of Higher Education, President of Kabul University and other officials of the Taliban government, offered to provide these scholarships, but in the announcement of this university about The exact number of these exchanges has not been provided.
The Asian University for Women, located in Chittagong, Bangladesh, said that Mr. Ahmed also donated medical supplies to Kabul hospitals that were requested by Taliban officials to Taliban Deputy Foreign Minister Sher Mohammad Abbas Stankzai.
Kamal Ahmad has also proposed to launch a pilot program of secondary and high school courses for Afghan girls by Afghan students studying in this university in order to advance the national educational curriculum of Afghanistan. A proposal that the Taliban has requested to submit an official proposal in this regard.
However, the Taliban group has not yet commented on how to accept and distribute it to Afghan women.
Although Sher Muhammad Stanakzai has called for the reopening of girls’ schools in Afghanistan, the Taliban government, after regaining control of Afghanistan in August last year, has kept the gates of secondary and high schools closed on Girls’ Day and does not allow women to travel without a Muharram companion. .
The international community, including the United Nations and other organizations defending human rights and women’s rights, have repeatedly asked this group not to deprive women and girls of the right to access work and education.
Some analysts have criticized the lack of a serious global reaction in this regard and say that the lack of seriousness of the international community has caused the closure of girls’ schools in Afghanistan.
Heather Barr, deputy director of the women’s division at Human Rights Watch, told VOA: “We are extremely sorry for the global response, which was accompanied by widespread condemnation and declarations but not a single plan.”
Currently, around 170 Afghan women are studying in Bangladesh through full scholarships at the Asian Women’s University.
