Eighty men suspected of gang-raping eight women in the South African town of Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg, appeared in court on Monday to answer questions.
The Johannesburg police explained about this: “Last Thursday, while a film crew consisting of 12 women and 10 men were recording a music video in an abandoned mine near the city, they were attacked by armed men who called “Zama Zama” are famous.”
The defendants in the case forced all members of this team to lie on the ground. Then they raped eight women and stole the group’s filming equipment while fleeing.
The police have identified the rest of the perpetrators of this incident by examining the DNA samples of the raped women. In addition, other charges related to illegal immigration to South Africa and illegal extraction of gold mines are also assigned to the defendants in the case.
Miners who are illegally trying to extract gold by clandestinely digging in many abandoned mines around Johannesburg form the “Zama Zama” group.
According to the residents of the region, one of the most important factors responsible for the spread of crime in this region is the Zama Zama group, which includes many foreigners.
In parallel with this trial, more than 300 people protested the prevalence of rape among the Zama Zamas in a demonstration in front of the Krugersdorp court.
