Two German ships “Humanity 1” and “Geo Barents”, owned by Doctors Without Borders, transported 500 refugees rescued in the Mediterranean Sea to Italian ports.
According to Deutsche Welle, the ship “Humanity 1” with 261 refugees rescued in the Mediterranean Sea docked in the Italian port of Bari on Sunday (December 20).
The Italian authorities assigned the port of Salerno to the Geo Barents, another refugee rescue ship. This ship belongs to the “Doctors Without Borders” organization, which has transported 248 asylum seekers under the Norwegian flag.
These two ships have rescued refugees in the Mediterranean Sea in several missions in the past weeks.
According to the statistics of the Italian Ministry of Interior, more than 97 thousand people entered Italy through the Mediterranean Sea in 2022.
