Elon Musk and Journalists
Elon Musk and Journalists have come to a decision. The new owner of Twitter offered to allow some of the journalists he had earlier this week banned from the social media site back provided they erased the tweets he had erroneously claimed revealed his “precise real-time” position.
Musk took action after publishing an illegitimate poll on his own Twitter account that had 59% of respondents voting in favor of instantly restoring the accounts as of Friday night.
Donie O’Sullivan of CNN, Ryan Mac of The New York Times, and Drew Harwell of The Washington Post were all blacklisted by Musk on Thursday. The Insider columnist Linette Lopez, former MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann, and independent progressive journalist Aaron Rupar were all prohibited.
Musk announced the results of his poll in a post on Friday night and promised to reinstate the accounts he had erroneously accused of disclosing his “precise real-time” location.
Despite the fact that the accounts went public on Saturday, the journalists did not get permission to publish anything until Musk said that the platform removed problematic tweets.
The journalists in this case vehemently contest that their messages broke any Twitter rules, but in the past, Twitter had demanded the deletion of objectionable tweets before users could restore access to their accounts.
