Colombian pop star Shakira has been accused of tax evasion and failure to pay 14.5 million euros ($15 million).
The Associated Press has reported on Friday, July 29, that the prosecutors of this case said that if this claim is proven, they will ask the court for eight years and two months in prison for him.
Shakira is accused of not paying taxes to the Spanish government between 2012 and 2014.
In the indictment of the case, there are six charges against Shakira.
In response to the case, Shakira rejected the agreement proposed by the prosecutor and this has led to the case being brought to court. The start date of the trial is not yet known.
Shakira’s lawyers said in a statement that the singer “has been law abiding and has demonstrated impeccable conduct as an individual and as a taxpayer.” They have accused the Spanish tax authority of violating the rights of this famous star.
