The Taliban cabinet, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, has instructed the group to block the PUBG online game and the TikTok app.
Enamullah Samangani, the Taliban’s deputy spokesman, tweeted today (Thursday, May 22) that the plans were misleading the younger generation.
He added that the Taliban cabinet had also asked the Ministry of Communications to refrain as much as possible from publishing those channels that publish immoral material and programs. Samangani has not said anything about the nature of these channels.
The previous government’s Ministry of Hajj and Endowments also declared PUBG “illegitimate.” TikTok is also a popular entertainment application that is limited in some other countries.
The Taliban have imposed extensive restrictions on the media since taking power. The series is currently banned from broadcasting on video media and playing music on radio.
International media coverage of Afghanistan’s domestic media has also recently been banned. The reason for this is the non-observance of “hijab” by the female presenters of these media outlets.
