US President Joe Biden has called on Congress to provide a way for tens of thousands of Afghan refugees to settle in the United States.
According to the CNN News , Mr. Biden made the request in a supplementary budget for emergency aid to Ukraine. This plan was sent to the delegates last week.
In recent months, however, Biden’s two-senator Chris Koons and Amy Klobuchar have been working to amend the law to provide permanent residency to Afghan citizens.
CNN Today (Thursday, May 6) wrote in a report that if the plan is approved, Afghan citizens who entered the United States between July 31, 2021 and September 20, 2022, will be allowed to change their immigration status to permanent residence.
More than 60,000 Afghans are said to have fled to the United States last summer when the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan.
