According to the new program of the German federal government, the annual admission capacity of language and integration courses is to be increased. Further facilities are also provided for asylum seekers with a Doldung certification.
The German Federal Government intends to increase the capacity of asylum seekers to accept language and integration courses. Under the program, about 10,000 more asylum seekers will be able to attend German-language classes each year. The Federal Ministry of Labor also predicts that “vocational language” classes could provide more space for about 5,000 students each year. Social integration process courses are also expected to accommodate up to 4,400 more participants.
Earlier, the German federal government had passed the “Employment Protection Act for Foreigners”, which could also facilitate asylum seekers’ access to German language education.
A spokesman for the German Federal Ministry of Federal Affairs said that under the new program, 27,000 people who meet the new requirements can now attend classes.
Findings from the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees show that from January to late October last year, a total of 197,000 eligible people took part in the integration courses.
Under the new Employment Protection for Foreigners Act, all asylum seekers whose case is being processed can take vocational or integration classes after a nine-month stay. This only applies to those who are officially registered as “Job Seekers”.
Until now, people with better prospects of staying in German society could have benefited from these courses, which primarily include immigrants from Syria, Eritrea, Somalia, Iran and Iraq.
Under the new law, German language courses will be open to all asylum seekers who have a residency card of at least six months and are officially registered as job seekers.
